╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
IBM PS/2 MODEL 50
The Above Board MC, 2 Plus and 2 have been tested at Intel and found
to be compatible with the IBM PS/2 Model 50.
IBM PS/2 MODEL 50Z
The Above Board MC, 2 Plus and 2 have been tested at Intel and found
to be compatible with the IBM PS/2 Model 50Z.
IBM PS/2 MODEL 55SX
The Above Board MC and Above Board 2 Plus are compatible with this
computer. The discontinued Above Board 2 and Above Board MC32 are
not compatible with this system.
If you are running an older version of SOFTSET that doesn't have a
"Mod 55SX" option, select "Mod 70" for the computer type. (If you
specify "Mod 50," the computer will report a parity error when it
accesses memory.) The current version of SOFTSET has a "Mod 55SX"
option.
Don't use the MC parameter in the DEVICE=EMM.SYS command in the
CONFIG.SYS file. Use 80386 versions of DESQview or Windows.
IBM PS/2 MODEL 57S
We have Customer Reports that the Above Board 2 Plus is compatible
with this computer as extended and expanded memory. The discontinued
Above Board 2 and Above Board MC32 are not compatible with this
system, and we have no information about the Above Board MC and this
system (although we can't foresee any difficulties).
In SOFTSET select Mod70 as the computer type.
IBM PS/2 MODEL 60
The Above Board MC, 2 Plus and the discontinued Above Board 2 have
been tested at Intel and found to be compatible with the IBM PS/2
Model 60.
We have confirmed that if the IBM PS/2 Model 60 has been modified for
2Meg on the system board (the original configuration was for 1Meg
ONLY), the discontinued Above Board 2 will no longer be compatible in
this system. The Above Board 2 assumed it was working with a 1Meg
system board and is not adaptable, unlike our currently shipping
memory boards.
IBM PS/2 MODEL 65S
The Above Board MC and 2 Plus are compatible with this computer as
extended and expanded memory. The discontinued Above Board 2 and
Above Board MC32 are not compatible with this system.
In older versions of SOFTSET, select Mod70 as the computer type. The
current version has "Mod 65SX" to use with this computer. The
computer's SCSI controller uses memory at D800. If using EMM, add
EXPL=D400 to the command line to avoid possible conflicts with the
SCSI controller.
Intel suggests that users add memory via Above Board as opposed to
swapping SIMMs on the system board. Users would have to remove and
discard the original 2MB SIMMs and replace them with 4MB SIMMs.
IBM MODEL P70
The Above Board MC and MC32 are compatible with this computer. Both
fit into the full-size 32-bit slot.
IBM PS/2 MODEL 70 (16 & 20MHZ)
The Above Board MC and MC32 are compatible with these computers.
The Above Board 2 Plus SHOULD also be compatible with these computers
if you use:
SOFTSET version 1.2 or later AND EMM for Micro Channel computers
version 4.0 revision C (diskette part number 301290-004A) or
later.
However, Intel recommends using the Above Board MC or MC32 because
these boards will provide faster 32-bit performance. Also, Intel
cannot guarantee that the Above Board 2 Plus is compatible with all
versions of the Models 70, since it was not designed or tested in
these systems.
IBM PS/2 Model 70 System Description
The PS/2 Model 70 uses 128k of motherboard memory for caching, so
users have 640k conventional and 256k of extended available of the
first 1MB of motherboard memory.
IBM PS/2 MODEL 70 (25MHZ)
The Above Board MC and MC32 are compatible with this computer. The
Above Board 2 Plus is not compatible.
IBM PS/2 Model 70 System Description
The IBM PS/2 Model 70 uses 128k of motherboard memory for caching, so
users have 640k conventional and 256k of extended available of the
first 1MB of motherboard memory.
IBM MODEL 80 (16 & 20MHZ)
The Above Board MC and MC32 are compatible with these computers.
The Above Board 2 Plus is also compatible with these computers if you
use:
SOFTSET version 1.2,(or more recent) AND EMM.SYS for Micro
Channel computers version 4.0 revision C (diskette part number
301290-004A) or later.
However, Intel recommends using the Above Board MC or MC32
because these boards will provide faster 32-bit performance.
Also, Intel cannot guarantee that the Above Board 2 Plus is
compatible with all versions of the Models 80.
IBM Model 80 System Description
Model 80s can have 4 MG on motherboard and generally have 2MG
installed. The motherboard does NOT need to be filled before adding
an Above Board. Some models have 128k cache.
Above Board MC32 Note:
Reports indicate the diagnostics program, Memcheck, (shipped 9/89 on
Intel Setup diskette) hangs in IBM Mod 80, 16Mhz, running IBM DOS
4.01. (Didn't happen with MS DOS 4.1)
To continue the installation, reboot to hard disk or DOS disk, put
the Intel Setup diskette in drive A, and type A:setup. OR just send
the latest software, the much-improved ADP installation.
IBM MODEL 90
IBM does not recommend add-in memory cards for the Model 90. They
say the system was not designed to access memory on add-in cards,
only SIMMs on the motherboard. We can recommend Intel's Matched
Memory SIMMs for these models.
PCSM 1290 - 2Meg Memory Module
PCSM 1490 - 4Meg Memory Module
IBM MODEL 95
IBM does not recommend add-in memory cards for the Model 95. They
say the system was not designed to access memory on add-in cards,
only SIMMs on the motherboard. We can recommend Intel's Matched
Memory SIMMs for these models.
PCSM 1290 - 2Meg Memory Module
PCSM 1490 - 4Meg Memory Module
GROUPE BULL 400
The Above Board MC is compatible with this system.
NCR PC386SX/MC
The Above Board MC and 2 Plus are compatible with this computer and
will work as either extended or expanded memory.
If you are installing the Above Board MC in an NCR computer, use the
following installation instructions:
Boot with your computer's Reference Diskette. Select
"Configuration" from the Main Menu, then "Automatic" so your
computer will recognize the Above Board MC. Select "Change" on
the Configuration Menu and select the Above Board MC to configure
the board for your computer.
(For an Above Board 2 Plus with the older version of SOFTSET, select
Mod70 as the computer type.) The newer version has "Mod 55SX" to use
with this system. DO NOT enable mappable conventional memory! You
can achieve the same results setting the Above Board as extended
memory and using QEMM-386 or 386 to The Max.
NCR PC386sx/MC System Description
This is an 80386sx-based MCA desktop machine with 5 available slots.
The motherboard comes with 1MB, of which 640k is conventional, 128k
is used for BIOS caching, and 256 is extended. There is a
proprietary slot for the addition of up to 7 more megs of zero wait-
state memory.
NCR 486/33
The Above Board MC is compatible with this system.
If you are installing the Above Board MC in an NCR computer, use the
following installation instructions:
■ Boot with your computer's Reference Diskette.
■ Select "Configuration" from the Main Menu, then "Automatic" so
your computer will recognize the Above Board MC.
■ Select "Change" on the Configuration Menu and select the Above
Board MC to configure the board for your computer.
NCR PC486/MC
The Above Board MC and 2 Plus are compatible with this computer. The
Above Board MC32 is not compatible with this computer.
NCR PC486/MC System Description
The built-in parallel port can be set up at 3BC, 378 or 278. The
setup allows you to impose a 16 megabyte limitation...I assume so
that you can actually have more memory installed, but turn the higher
memory off when using applications or operating systems that can't
deal with more than 16 megabytes. The internal caching, secondary
caching and system speed is all switchable from the Reference disk.
The NCR PC486/MC is about the size of a Model 70. It has 2 open 32-
bit MCA slots, and 2 open 16-bit MCA slots. It has built in serial,
parallel & mouse ports. It comes with a memory board that holds 30
pins SIMMs and will accept up to 16 megabytes of memory. The memory
board plugs into a proprietary slot, and I speculate that in a few
months, NCR will be releasing a board that will decode 4 meg SIMMs
instead of just 256k or 1 meg SIMMs, which would allow you to put 64
megabytes on the memory board...without using an expansion slot.
The video is VGA, with the BIOS starting at E000. The video is on a
card, so when XGA or ZGA comes along, no problem, just pull the card
and stick in the new standard.
The standard hard drive is a 100 meg SCSI. The SCSI adapter also
plugs into a slot, and has an external SCSI port on it that will
support up to another 6 SCSI devices. The floppy controller is built
into the motherboard, and the system comes with one 3.5, 1.44m
floppy. It has a bay for another externally accessible drive, which
can either be a floppy or a tape drive.
The slots that the video card and the SCSI adapter are plugged into
are standard MCA slots, and are in addition to the 4 open slots I
mentioned earlier.
The access time on the SCSI hard drive is a respectable 25
milliseconds, with a 968kbyte transfer rate. With a 6 millisecond
track to track seek time, this drive is faster than Core's finest.
The machine gives a Norton's SI of 41.2.
OLIVETTI MCA

TANDY 5000
The Above Board MC and 2 Plus are completely compatible with this
computer, however the Above Board MC32 is not.
To install an Above Board in this computer:
Boot with your computer's Reference Diskette. Select "Configuration"
from the Main Menu, then "Automatic" so your computer will recognize
the Above Board. Select "Change" on the Configuration Menu and
select the Above Board to configure the board for your computer.
TANDY MCA
This computer is compatible with Above Board 2 Plus using the Option
diskette with software part number 301290-004A or later. Set the
extended memory starting address to 2432.
Earlier software versions don't allow you to set the extended memory
starting address so they won't work in this computer.
Tandy MCA System Description
This system comes with 2MB on motherboard so if an extended memory
start address is required for an older release of EMM, use EXTF=2432.
